When I saw this on This speech on TV back in the day I understood, but didn't see the impact that it would have on Digable Planets. They were in a category with Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Arrested Development, and Naughty by nature. Digable Planets were suppose to be the safe jazzy hipsters. You know that award was either going to Arrested Development maybe even Naughty by Nature. When you watch the video you see Ish (Butterfly) put his acceptance speech in his pocket and knew that class was in session for the masses. If you notice after the grammy's Digable planets came out with Blowout Comb a more revolutionary album,but you can tell they lost some of thier fanbase. The key is to get into the industry and create change of some sort after you have the attention of the people. I believe Outkast is the perfect example of how a Hip-Hop career should grow. I was fortunate to see Digable Planets rock together last year, and was not disappointed! Now music is going through a stage as is the world. I guarantee that in the coming years social issues will play a large role in music of all genres.Until Then..................
